Conan is...AN ALLIGATOR is a YTMND by user Dasyati created on April 17, 2005 and is the original inspiration for the Conan is... fad.

The Conan is... fad normally uses an (appropriately edited) Animated GIF of Conan O'Brien, former host of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien, waving his arms about. Conan was attempting to imitate the opening and closing motion of an alligator's jaws during an interview with Matthew McConaughey. Also commonly accompanying the YTMND is the song "Straight Ahead" by Tube & Berger.

Other YTMNDs

Besides edits of the original GIF, the 'Conan is...' fad has inspired other sites featuring Conan, some branching out into their own fads. For example, the site Conan...has GONE INSANE! eventually led to the Future Conan fad. Another site, Conan...stares into your soul! spun into the Stares into your soul fad. This YTMND was also the inspiration for the TIGER Handheld fad becoming prevalent on YTMND. It also has a few PTKFGS spin-offs featuring other talk show hosts who also were/appeared to be imitating an alligator.

Today

The Conan is... fad, along with the other Conan-based fads, is rarely seen today. However, Conan O'Brien remains a staple in conglomerates.
